PEEX at EGU 2019

During EGU-2019 General Assembly (7-12 April 2019, Vienna, Austria), a special session on “Coupled modelling and data assimilation of dynamics and chemistry of the atmosphere” was arranged on 12 April in cooperation with the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS), World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Global Atmosphere Watch (GAW) and the PEEX Programmes. A series of oral and poster presentations was delivered, covering aspects of development in integrated modelling and data assimilation, evaluation and understanding. A number of considered applications included improved numerical weather prediction and chemical weather forecasting with feedbacks between aerosols, chemistry and meteorology, as well as two-way interactions between atmospheric composition and climate variability. The session shared strategy, experience and best practices in online integrated meteorology-chemistry modelling; status and progress development of seamless coupled prediction systems; improved parameterisations of weather-composition feedbacks and data assimilation; evaluation, validation, and applications of integrated systems.
